Over 1000 | Intermediate–Advanced (Week 1 All Day)
Coach: Josh Price
Take your chess game to the next level in our intensive Intermediate–Advanced program led by Coach Josh Price. Designed for players rated over 1000, this camp focuses on the skills and strategies needed to compete confidently and improve tournament performance. Through lessons, guided analysis, puzzles, and practice games, students will learn how stronger players think and make decisions.

Week 1 Morning – The Art of Tactical Intuition: Counterplay, Calculation, and Creativity

In this week, you will learn:
• Late opening patterns and how to recognize key transitional moments
• Understanding your middlegame goals and creating effective plans
• Pawn structure and how it affects your attacking opportunities
• Understanding tactical patterns beyond standard puzzles
• Utilizing the center, not just controlling it

Week 1 Afternoon – How to See Clearly: Building Efficient Calculation, Visualization, and Thinking Method

In this week, you will learn:
• How to calculate further, faster, and more efficiently
• Techniques for visualizing positions more clearly in your mind and maintaining that clarity throughout a game
• A structured thinking method that helps reduce blunders and improve decision-making
• Ways to eliminate unnecessary “noise” and focus on the most important aspects of a position
• The art of focus and concentration during critical moments of the game

Important Friday Schedule: Students participating in the weekly USCF-rated tournament will need to attend from 8:30 AM–3:30 PM on Friday, regardless of their regular camp session time. This allows all participants to compete in the full tournament experience. In addition to daily instruction and training, students will have the opportunity to compete in a USCF-rated tournament each Friday, allowing them to apply what they’ve learned in a competitive setting and earn or improve their official rating. Lunch will be provided on Fridays and will include pizza. Snacks and drinks will also be available throughout the camp to keep students energized and focused.
Whether you’re preparing for tournaments or simply looking to become a stronger player, this camp will provide the tools, knowledge, and practice needed to elevate your game.
